What you should and should not do after hair transplant procedure?

Hair transplant is one of the most popular medical procedures in the world. This is primarily because literally no one wants to lose their hair. Generally, after a hair transplant surgery, patients are asked to rest and do minimal activity in the day. This should be the case for at least 24-48 hours.

What should you do after hair transplant?

Furthermore, swelling is a major concern after a hair transplant procedure. In order to avoid this, it is important for patients to sleep at an elevation of at least 45 degrees. After three nights have passed, the angle can be reduced.

Furthermore, also make sure that you are not having any aspirin or eating ice cream after the procedure. Furthermore, it is best to avoid smoking, alcoholic drinks, and caffeine for at least three to five days after the treatment.

In case you feel like your head is swelling, apply ice on the forehead after every two hours. In case you are feeling a lot of pain, you can also use specialized pain that your doctors will prescribe. These medicines can be used to control and soothe the pain. However, make sure that you are not taking any medicines without a prescription.

Bloating and swelling

Temporary swelling and bloating is quite common among people who get a hair transplant procedure done. After the first session, this may occur on one’s forehead. However, swelling comes later on the second or third day of the process. This is referred to as a transient phase. This means that it will not stay there forever and will not cause future issues. However, the swelling can reach the eye-lids due to the effect of gravity.

By sleeping at an angle of 45 degrees using a pillow, one can avoid the swelling effect. This is the prime reasons why doctors recommend the patients to sleep this way for at least three to 5 days after the surgery.

Could there be infection?

Well, infections after a hair transplant procedure are rare, provided that the doctor has used sterilised equipment. Though, after the process, it is better to avoid tasks for at least 24 – 48 hours. This will prevent the buildup of any kind of bacteria or dirt on the head. Furthermore, also avoid touching the planted hair follicles and the donor area.

In case there is any symptom of pain, it should immediately be reported to the doctor. At the same time, patients are also recommended to avoid all types of hard work for at least 7 days after the procedure. This is to ensure that the scalp does not sweat a lot, and that no buildup of dirt occurs. This includes weight lifting, saunas, and work-out.

So, be ready to say good-bye to the gym temporarily (in case you work out). Though, on the second day of your surgery, transplant doctors will typically allow you to carry out light activities including going to work. At the same time, some people may be recommended to have full rest for a week or more. This is something that applies to new patients, who are undergoing the process for the very first time.
